Sun shading (lidar)

Adjust simulated sun direction on the lidar hillshade. Azimuth = compass bearing of the light (0° north, 90° east). Altitude = height above the horizon (low = long shadows).

Iskut-Unuk Boundary Survey Lost Gold

Lost Treasure AK • Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area County
Description
1903 International Boundary Survey legend — a surveyor picked up gold-speckled quartz on a 6,400-foot ridge between the Iskut and Unuk Rivers and never returned after the party pressed on toward Canada.
Historical Notes
While marking the Alaska–Canada border during the Klondike-era boundary dispute, survey crews routinely shared interesting rocks at camp. One member unwrapped quartz with unmistakable gold from a high ridge the party had just crossed. He reported no outcrop and only a hasty search before deadlines forced the team onward. None of the party ever went back to the remote divide. Treasure hunters cite the 1919 Joint Boundary Report as a possible map to the ridge — a lost-mine variant distinct from coastal shipwreck lore.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
