Historical Notes
Irish Canyon in extreme northwest Moffat County was a popular hideout for Butch Cassidy, the Wild Bunch, Matt Warner, Isom Dart, and other outlaws operating from the Browns Park vicinity. Legends of America reports $30,000 in silver coins buried somewhere in the canyon. From Maybell, take US-40 to Colorado 318, then Moffat County Road 10N through the canyon. The Irish Canyon Rock Art Site features Fremont petroglyphs viewable from an elevated platform.
