Huntington folklore of a Missouri Pacific Railroad payroll buried near the East Texas rail junction east of Lufkin where timber trains met mainline freight.
Historical Notes
Huntington is a railroad town in eastern Angelina County on the Missouri Pacific line between Lufkin and the Sabine River country. Junction depots were classic targets for Reconstruction-era train robberies and embezzled payrolls. East Texas guidebooks group Huntington with Lufkin and Diboll in Piney Woods cache traditions separate from the Neches River cannon legends downstream. Coordinates mark Huntington in eastern Angelina County.
