Historical Notes
Texas Beyond History notes mine features on the southern slopes of Packsaddle Mountain just south of Honey Creek, a short distance southwest of the Llano River. Christopher Caran and colleagues recorded shafts, tunnels, spoil piles, and a brick smelter spanning Spanish Colonial through early-twentieth-century mining. Related entry "Honey Creek — Llano County" documents the full creek from Oxford to Lake LBJ. This pin localizes the western Cap Mountain reach where Honey Creek approaches Packsaddle Mountain and Los Almagres traditions cluster. Private Packsaddle Ranch and adjacent properties — obtain permission before prospecting.
