Description
Spring-fed Honey Creek flows east about 14 miles from near Oxford to Lake LBJ opposite Kingsland. Named as a Llano-area tributary where recreational prospectors search for fine placer gold before it enters the Llano River system.
Historical Notes
Honey Creek rises northeast of Oxford (approx. 30°37' N, 98°40' W) and runs east to its mouth on Lake Lyndon B. Johnson near Kingsland Lake Estates (approx. 30°40' N, 98°29' W). Listed among Central Texas streams associated with fine placer gold alongside the Llano River, Bull Head Creek, and Walnut Creek. Work gravel bars and cracks in bedrock in the lower creek near the Llano River confluence, especially after runoff events. Most Honey Creek frontage is private; secure permission before prospecting.
