Hill City Wash Tub Buried Gold

Lost Treasure SD • Pennington County County
Description
Hill City legend of a wash tub half filled with gold buried near the railroad town — a staple tale in Pennington County lost-treasure guidebooks.
Historical Notes
Regional treasure lists repeat the wash-tub image as shorthand for a sizable pioneer cache hidden before Hill City's busts or fires. Hill City served the Black Hills & Fort Pierre Railroad and remained a quartz and tourist hub between Rapid City and Keystone. No authenticated recovery is documented; the story belongs to placer- and camp-cache folklore of the central hills.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
