Hico Bosque River Cotton Specie — Hamilton County

Lost Treasure TX • Hamilton County County
Description
Hamilton County legend of a cotton-merchant specie cache buried along the Bosque River at Hico — when stone commercial buildings replaced fire-prone wooden stores after 1890 blazes.
Historical Notes
Hico merchants rebuilt in stone after separate 1890 fires destroyed both sides of Pecan Street. Cotton and cattle barons moved substantial cash through the county seat before rural banking networks reached the Honey Creek country. Bosque River bottomland folklore often places emergency strongboxes where floods and frontier banditry threatened overland commerce. Related Waco-area entries document separate Bosque County outlaw caches farther east. Coordinates approximate the Bosque River corridor through Hico in Hamilton County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
