Description
Early school community at Hickory Creek near Smithwick Mills; one of three settlements that merged to form Smithwick in southeastern Burnet County.
Historical Notes
Smithwick formed from Hickory Creek, Elm Grove, and Smithwick Mills. Hickory Creek established a church and school in the early 1850s; Noah Smithwick built a water-powered gristmill in the 1850s at nearby Smithwick Mills. The school district was known as Hickory Creek until at least the mid-1920s. Smithwick school consolidated with Marble Falls ISD in 1951.
