Guadalupe Mountains Cave Gold

Lost Treasure TX • Culberson County County
Description
Guadalupe Mountains site associated with recovered gold ingots and ongoing lost-mine lore. Treasure hunter W.C. Jameson participated in a 1953 recovery of about 100 gold ingots from a cave as a boy — one of Texas's most famous treasure-hunting stories.
Historical Notes
Texas Highways and W.C. Jameson's books describe gold in the Guadalupe Mountains. Jameson recalls stacking ingots recovered from a cave in 1953 (when private gold ownership was restricted). The event launched his decades-long career writing 40+ treasure books including Buried Treasures of Texas. The Guadalupes also carry Spanish mine legends and outlaw caches. Much of the range is protected within Guadalupe Mountains National Park; prospecting and unauthorized digging are prohibited. Coordinates approximate the Guadalupe Peak / high country area. Specific cave locations are not publicized.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
