Grenwelge Park — Llano River Gold Panning

Gold Mining Site TX • Llano County County
Description
Leonard Grenwelge Park on Ford Street at the south bank of the Llano River in downtown Llano. Public access with rapids, granite outcrops, and family tubing — a documented spot for recreational gold panning.
Historical Notes
Grenwelge Park is a Llano County park on Ford Street along the south bank of the Llano River at the east edge of downtown. A historic granite-quarrying marker stands in the park. Visit Llano notes vigorous rapids here and recommends the area below the bridge and alongside Grenwelge for tubing and family river fun. Regional tourism materials list Grenwelge as one of four city river access points (with Robinson Park, Badu Park, and Ash Street) where panning for gold in the Llano River is free. Work cracks in exposed bedrock and gravel trapped below the small falls after runoff. The park hosts Llano Earth Art Fest (LEAF) camping during festival weekends; contact the City of Llano for non-event access rules. Respect park boundaries and adjacent private shoreline.
