Green Island Indian Buried Cache

Lost Treasure IA • Jackson County County
Description
Green Island bottoms legend of an Indian burial cache of unknown value along the Mississippi floodplain — a Jackson County tale distinct from the Bellevue pirate stories.
Historical Notes
Iowa Legends of Buried Treasure records a cache hidden in or near the Green Island bottoms by an unnamed Indian. Green Island is a Mississippi River island and wetland complex northeast of Sabula long used for fishing and river travel. The story belongs to river-bottom folklore rather than the James gang narratives of western Iowa.
