Grasshopper Creek Lost Bannack Bonanza

Lost Treasure MT • Beaverhead County County
Description
Bannack placer legend that early Grasshopper Creek diggings still hold unworked paystreaks and pioneer caches — the 1862 discovery that launched Montana's first major gold camp and the road-agent wars.
Historical Notes
Grasshopper Creek gold drew thousands to Bannack in 1862–1863, creating the freight wealth that road agents preyed upon. Regional treasure lists repeat that Boise Basin–style "left behind" placer remains in Bannack gravels and side gulches. Bannack State Park preserves the creek corridor where panning lore and outlaw caches overlap in Montana folklore.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
