Goldfield Harry Bishop Smelter Gold

Lost Treasure NV • Esmeralda County County
Description
Goldfield smelter legend of geologist Harry Bishop smuggling gold in a hollow wooden leg after a mine cave-in — $50,000 in ingots found at his home but more believed still hidden locally.
Historical Notes
After losing a leg in a cave-in, Bishop took a smelter job and allegedly smuggled company gold inside a prosthetic leg until arrested. Authorities found about ninety ingots worth roughly $50,000 in a false basement wall, short of the mine's estimated $100,000+ loss. Bishop never returned to Goldfield; folklore holds additional bullion remains buried in the camp he blamed for his injury.
