Goldfield 1913 Flood Safes

Lost Treasure NV • Esmeralda County County
Description
Goldfield legend of a September 1913 flash flood washing two safes full of gold coins into the mud west of town — buried in muck and never recovered.
Historical Notes
Goldfield was Nevada's greatest early-twentieth-century gold camp when a devastating flood struck on September 3, 1913. Legends of America reports two safes containing hundreds of gold coins were swept into a gully west of town and lost in flood debris. The tale remains one of Esmeralda County's most repeated modern treasure stories alongside the Harry Bishop smelter legend.
