Golconda Ohio River Sunken Silver

Lost Treasure IL • Pope County County
Description
Golconda legend of silver dollars washing ashore along the Ohio River from a sunken steamboat — a Pope County tale of riverboat treasure never fully salvaged.
Historical Notes
Pope County guides report many silver dollars found on Ohio River banks near Golconda, attributed to a sunken riverboat. Golconda served Shawneetown–Golconda trail traffic and Ohio River ferries in the nineteenth century. Metal detectorists and river hunters still cite the recurring shoreline silver as evidence of an unfound steamboat hoard.
