Georgetown Winyah Bay Shipwreck Silver

Lost Treasure SC • Georgetown County County
Description
Georgetown harbor legend of Spanish silver and pirate plunder in Winyah Bay — where colonial rice ports and offshore wrecks meet three centuries of salvage lore.
Historical Notes
Georgetown at Winyah Bay was a major colonial port linking Sea Island cotton trade to the Atlantic. Spanish fleet wrecks and pirate prizes both contributed coins to local beaches and bayous. TreasureNet threads on Spanish galleon wreckage and Post and Courier salvage reporting document ongoing recoveries off the Georgetown coast. The Georgetown Rice Museum and maritime archives preserve the overlap between lawful trade and illicit treasure hunting.
