Description
Allegheny County legend of up to $25,000 in gold from British General Edward Braddock's fortune buried along a road following the Monongahela River after his 1755 defeat.
Historical Notes
Braddock's expedition toward Fort Duquesne ended in disaster near the Monongahela in July 1755. Compiled guides place as much as twenty-five thousand dollars in Braddock's gold along the river road corridor. The tradition joins French and Indian War payroll and officer-cache folklore across western Pennsylvania.
