Garcitas Creek Lafitte Treasure Bags

Lost Treasure TX • Jackson County County
Description
Jackson County legend that Jean Lafitte buried bags of treasure on or near Garcitas Creek — the waterway beside La Salle's Fort St. Louis and the earliest European settlement on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Historical Notes
Garcitas Creek flows into Lavaca Bay near the site of Fort St. Louis, René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle's 1685 French colony. Karankawa Bay and the creek mouth were strategic for smugglers long after the fort failed. The Rocker Box Jackson County list describes Lafitte treasure bags along Garcitas Creek. TreasureNet locals tie the same corridor to wrecked ships in the Lavaca–Navidad river system and Spanish plate found on nearby ranches. Coordinates approximate Garcitas Creek near the Fort St. Louis historic site. Related entry: "Fort St. Louis La Salle Coast Hoard — Victoria County."
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
