Gamel Spring — Mason

Historic Park TX • Mason County County
Description
Historic spring near Fort Mason used by soldiers and settlers; later fed the Mason town swimming pool. Associated with pioneer William S. Gamel and Comanche treaty traditions.
Historical Notes
Gamel Spring lies near the Fort Mason site. John O. Meusebach is thought to have signed a treaty with Comanche Chief Ketemoczy near this spring country in 1847. Fort Mason used the spring for water; after the fort closed, Gamel Spring continued to supply the community and fed the town swimming pool into the twentieth century.
