Frio River Leona Confluence Cattle Payroll — Frio County

Lost Treasure TX • Frio County County
Description
Frio County legend of a cattle-drive payroll cached where the Leona River joins the Frio on the South Texas Plains east of Pearsall.
Historical Notes
The Leona River joins the Frio River in southern Frio County. Both streams drain the Rio Grande Plain; nineteenth-century cattle drives and sheep ranching concentrated cash payrolls at river crossings before rail towns like Pearsall matured. River-confluence payroll caches appear throughout Guide to Treasure in Texas along the Frio, Leona, and Nueces systems. No authenticated recovery is documented at the Leona mouth. Coordinates approximate the Leona River confluence on the Frio River in southern Frio County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
