Frenchman Springs Colonial Trading Post Hoard — Maverick County

Lost Treasure TX • Maverick County County
Description
Quemado-area legend of a French trading post hoard near Frenchman Springs — when eighteenth-century traders were said to operate northeast of Quemado on the Camino Real corridor north of Eagle Pass.
Historical Notes
Maverick County tradition suggests a French trading post was established near Frenchman Springs northeast of Quemado in the 1720s, possibly connected with the Domingo Ramón and Louis Juchereau de St. Denis expedition of 1714–17. The Bosque-Larios expedition celebrated what may have been the first Mass on present Texas soil at San Isidro near Quemado on May 15, 1675. Colonial trade folklore links French and Spanish posts along the Camino Real to buried specie and pack-train goods. Coordinates approximate Frenchman Springs northeast of Quemado in northern Maverick County. Private ranch land — legend only.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
