Description
Texas Parks & Wildlife historic site: 1841 French diplomatic outpost and Creole-style legation house on a hill east of downtown Austin.
Historical Notes
Alphonse Dubois de Saligny, chargé d'affaires for King Louis Philippe, built the legation in 1841 during the Republic of Texas. The property served as a private residence after France withdrew recognition; the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Texas Parks & Wildlife preserved the house and grounds. Oldest frame structure in Austin; grounds function as a museum park with interpretive gardens overlooking East Austin.
