Description
Nacogdoches-area legend of funds hidden during the Fredonian Rebellion of 1826–1827 when Haden Edwards and allies briefly declared independence near the Old Stone Fort.
Historical Notes
The Fredonian Rebellion (December 1826 – January 1827) was an early attempt at Texas independence led by Haden Edwards and Benjamin W. Edwards in the Nacogdoches district. The revolt collapsed when Mexican and loyalist forces advanced. Rebellion-era treasure tales describe filibuster specie and land-office receipts buried when the Edwards party fled. The event is commemorated in Nacogdoches historical programming as a precursor to the Texas Revolution. Coordinates mark central Nacogdoches near the Fredonian Rebellion historic corridor.
