Franklin Mountains Lost Padre Mine — El Paso County

Lost Treasure TX • El Paso County County
Description
El Paso legend of the Lost Padre Mine on Franklin Mountain — a Spanish-era silver prospect tied to mission friars and centuries of Franklin Mountains treasure hunting.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box El Paso County compilation describes the Lost Padre Mine on Franklin Mountain. The range rises above the Rio Grande pass where El Paso, Ysleta, Socorro, and San Elizario missions anchored the northern frontier after the 1680 Pueblo Revolt. Lost Padre mine tales appear across the Southwest and overlap New Mexico's Padre LaRue traditions, but the Franklin Mountains variant is specific to El Paso guidebooks cited by The Rocker Box, including Coronado's Children and Buried Treasures of the American Southwest. Coordinates approximate the Franklin Mountains high country above El Paso. Much of the range is Franklin Mountains State Park — follow park rules; no unauthorized digging.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
