Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Goshen County compilation records the Billingsly treasure buried on the banks of a river near Fort Laramie. Buried Treasures You Can Find is cited as the published source. Fort Laramie guarded the North Platte crossing where overlanders restocked at inflated prices before crossing Wyoming's dry prairie. Sallie Hester's 1849 diary described blacksmiths, traders, and emigrants lightening wagons a mile from the adobe fort. Coordinates mark Fort Laramie National Historic Site on the Oregon Trail. National Park Service property — no unauthorized digging.
