Fort Columbia Scarborough Treasure

Lost Treasure WA • Pacific County County
Description
Columbia River mouth legend of pioneer Captain James Scarborough burying treasure near his 1843 cabin on what is now Fort Columbia State Park north of the river.
Historical Notes
Scarborough was among the first white settlers north of the Columbia River and built a frontier cabin in 1843. Legends of America alleges he buried valuables near the cabin site; if true, the hoard lies within the historic state park boundaries. Pacific County coastal lore pairs the tale with Willapa Bay and Columbia estuary treasure traditions.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
