Fort Abercrombie Frontier Military Caches

Lost Treasure ND • Richland County County
Description
Red River valley legend of concealed strongboxes and soldier savings near Fort Abercrombie — North Dakota's first federal military post, besieged by Dakota warriors in 1862 and long linked to lost-cache reports.
Historical Notes
TreasureNet Dakota researchers compiled older Fort Abercrombie cache reports suggesting substance behind repeated frontier strongbox tales. The 1862 siege along the Red River made the fort a hub for displaced settlers, fur traders, and military payrolls moving through the corridor. Coordinates mark the Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site south of Fargo on the Red River.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
