First Baptist Church — Mason

Historic Church TX • Mason County County
Description
Baptist congregation organized in Mason in 1872 during the decade when Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, and other Protestant churches formed across the county.
Historical Notes
Until 1872 Mason County remained largely Catholic or Methodist from earlier circuit-rider activity. The 1870s saw rapid church organizing as the cattle and wool economy boomed. Big camp meetings were common from 1860 through the turn of the century; Baptist societies anchored rural and town congregations throughout the Hill Country.
