Enchanted Rock Kidnapped White Woman Screams Cache — Llano County

Lost Treasure TX • Llano County County
Description
Enchanted Rock legend of pioneer specie left by a kidnapped white woman — who escaped her captors, lived on the dome for months, and whose screams are still heard on dark nights.
Historical Notes
Enchanted Rock folklore tells of a white woman kidnapped by Indians who escaped and lived on the granite dome for many months until she succumbed to starvation and dehydration. People have claimed to hear her screams on the darkest nights. Captive-escape folklore sometimes places hidden valuables where frontier hostages cached possessions while surviving on remote landmarks. The tale complements Indian princess and chief-footprint legends recorded at the same dome. Coordinates approximate the Enchanted Rock dome and summit trails in southern Llano County.
