Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Maverick County compilation describes bags of silver coins buried in a creviced area north of Eagle Pass. Eagle Pass was established in 1850 as a Rio Grande crossing and became Maverick County's trade center opposite Piedras Negras. Limestone bluffs along the river provided natural concealment for contraband and specie in border folklore. Fort Duncan guarded the crossing during the Civil War and Indian campaigns. Coordinates approximate the bluff country north of Eagle Pass in Maverick County northwest of Laredo.
