Eagle Pass Jesse James and Quantrill Loot — Maverick County

Lost Treasure TX • Maverick County County
Description
Maverick County legend that Jesse James and William Quantrill buried outlaw loot south of Eagle Pass on the Rio Grande frontier northwest of Laredo.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Maverick County page states Jesse James and Quantrill supposedly buried loot south of Eagle Pass. Post–Civil War border folklore often attributes unattributed caches to James, Quantrill, or other guerrilla bands fleeing into Mexico. Historians dispute James and Quantrill appearances in the Eagle Pass country, but the tale persists in Guide to Treasure in Texas compilations. Related Jesse James payroll legends appear in North Texas and Missouri guidebooks. Coordinates approximate the Eagle Pass river corridor south of the city in Maverick County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
