Dutch Oven Mine — San Bernardino County

Lost Treasure CA • San Bernardino County County
Description
Mojave Desert lost-mine legend of a rich gold ledge marked by a buried Dutch oven near Old Woman Springs in San Bernardino County — worked briefly then lost to shifting landmarks.
Historical Notes
Legends of America's lost-mines series describes a prospector who cached ore and marked the site with a Dutch oven in the eastern San Bernardino Mountains desert fringe. Sand, flash floods, and sparse landmarks erased the location from memory, producing a classic Mojave "marked cache" story distinct from Mother Lode placer lore. Treasure hunters tie the tale to Old Woman Springs and the Morongo Basin prospecting tradition of the late nineteenth century.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
