Diboll Southern Pine Lumber Payroll — Angelina County

Lost Treasure TX • Angelina County County
Description
Diboll legend of a sawmill-era payroll cache tied to the Southern Pine Lumber Company — one of the largest timber operations feeding the Lufkin rail corridor.
Historical Notes
Diboll developed around T. L. L. Temple's Southern Pine Lumber Company, which helped make Angelina County a national timber producer. Mill towns concentrated weekly payrolls in cash before bank branches spread through the Piney Woods. Timber-camp treasure tales describe foremen and paymasters burying strongboxes when fires, floods, or bandits threatened isolated mill settlements. Diboll remains a company-town landmark south of Lufkin on US 59. Coordinates mark Diboll in southern Angelina County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
