Deep Eddy Municipal Pool — Austin

Historic Park TX • Travis County County
Description
Oldest swimming pool in Texas, on the Colorado River at Deep Eddy. Private resort from 1915; city of Austin acquired the site in 1935.
Historical Notes
A.J. Eilers operated Deep Eddy Bathing Beach from 1915, promoting the spring-fed pool as the largest concrete swimming pool in the nation. The city purchased the property in 1935 after a 1932 flood damaged facilities; WPA-era improvements followed. Deep Eddy remains a beloved Austin swimming destination within the Zilker/Barton Creek park corridor on the south bank of the Colorado River.
