Historical Notes
The Dean Richmond went down in October 1893 a few miles northeast of Dunkirk on Lake Erie. Compiled guides credit the wreck with roughly one hundred ninety-one thousand dollars in gold bullion. The sinking joins the Atlantic, Erie, and Washington steamer coin legends along Chautauqua County's lake shore.
