Daniel Evans Outlaw Cache — Bosque County

Lost Treasure TX • Bosque County County
Description
Hanged outlaw Daniel H. Evans claimed he buried $25,000 from an 1873 Creek Nation robbery in Bosque County — equivalent to more than half a million dollars today.
Historical Notes
Daniel Evans was convicted of murder near Eufaula in Indian Territory and admitted robbing a wealthy victim of $32,000 in 1873 — reportedly using a burning pine stick to torture the location of the money from his victim. Before Judge Isaac C. Parker sentenced him to hang at Fort Smith, Arkansas, Evans claimed he buried $25,000 of the loot in Bosque County while visiting respectable family connections in Central Texas. He was hanged with five others on September 3, 1875, and never revealed a precise site. Mike Cox (Texas Escapes, 2007) revived the forgotten legend. Coordinates approximate central Bosque County near Meridian. Private ranch land throughout the county.
