Crystal City developed as the Zavala County seat and center of the Winter Garden spinach and truck-farming belt. Wagon-train massacre tales appear throughout South Texas border folklore from the colonial period through the Republic era. No authenticated hoard has been recovered near Crystal City. Coordinates mark Crystal City in Zavala County southwest of Uvalde.
