Crow Wing County Bank Robbery Loot

Lost Treasure MN • Crow Wing County County
Description
1880s Crow Wing legend of bandits led by Charlie Pitts robbing the county bank and burying gold, silver, and currency in the wilderness before capture.
Historical Notes
Old Crow Wing on the Mississippi was a booming fur-trade and lumber town before Brainerd eclipsed it. Compiled lore names outlaw Charlie Pitts among robbers who looted the bank and cached the haul along the river or near abandoned settlements. The gang was killed or captured without revealing the burial site as Crow Wing itself declined.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
