Crosbyton Santa Fe Railroad Payroll — Crosby County

Lost Treasure TX • Crosby County County
Description
Crosbyton legend of an unrecovered Santa Fe Railway payroll from the era when the South Plains line linked Crosby County to Lubbock and the Caprock.
Historical Notes
The Pecos and Northern Texas Railway (later Santa Fe) pushed across the South Plains in the early twentieth century, making Crosbyton the Crosby County seat in 1910. Weekly railroad and cotton-shipping payrolls concentrated in cash at division towns across the Llano Estacado. Rail-payroll treasure folklore mirrors Midland, Plainview, and Levelland traditions on parallel West Texas lines. Crosbyton's historic downtown preserves early railroad-era commercial buildings. Coordinates mark downtown Crosbyton in Crosby County east of Lubbock.
