Crawford Outlaw Cache — Coryell County

Lost Treasure TX • Coryell County County
Description
Crawford west of Waco near Coryell County — cattle-country folklore of Sam Bass–era and post-war outlaw loot cached in limestone hills between the Brazos and the Leon River.
Historical Notes
Crawford sits west of Waco at the edge of the Grand Prairie limestone country toward Gatesville. The area was ranch and farmland during the Sam Bass and post–Reconstruction outlaw period. Central Texas outlaw treasure lists place Coryell and western McLennan counties within the radius of Bass gang movement between Round Rock, Dallas, and the frontier. Crawford-area tales describe cave caches in the breaks west of the Brazos. Coordinates approximate Crawford. Private ranch land dominates Coryell County.
