Description
Hilltop park overlooking the Colorado River and Lake Austin. Frank Covert donated 5.36 acres in 1939; stone pavilion and steps built by the Works Progress Administration.
Historical Notes
Mount Bonnell (approx. 775 feet) has been a scenic overlook since the Republic of Texas era. Covert Park formalized public access after Frank Covert's 1939 donation; WPA crews constructed the iconic limestone steps and picnic structures. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark; one of Austin's most visited viewpoints above the Pennybacker Bridge corridor.
