Coulson Yellowstone River Stage Specie — Yellowstone County

Lost Treasure MT • Yellowstone County County
Description
Coulson legend of unrecovered stage specie along the Yellowstone River — where P. W. McAdow ran a Miles City–Bozeman line station before Billings absorbed the railroad town in 1882.
Historical Notes
The 1936 Fallon County Times stage-line history notes Coulson stage-station operator P. W. McAdow on the Miles City–Bozeman route established in 1877 after Custer's campaign quieted Sioux resistance in the Yellowstone Valley. Road agents trailed coaches to steal bullion and passenger valuables; one eastern Montana tale describes bandits unstrapping a trunk worth hundreds of dollars from a coach rear without the driver noticing. Coordinates mark the original Coulson townsite on the Yellowstone River rim above present downtown Billings. Urban and riverside land — legend only.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
