Historical Notes
TreasureNet researchers cite a newspaper account in which former El Capitan Cattle Company cowpuncher Wiley Sidwell reported that two members of the Black Jack gang hid in log cabins in Copeland Canyon in the Capitan Mountains, pretending to be trappers. The Capitan range west of Roswell served as outlaw and rustler country during the Lincoln County War era and afterward.
