Legend of stolen loot from a stagecoach robbery outside Cooney, Grant County, hidden near the old mining camp in the Mogollon Mountains country.
Historical Notes
Cooney (Cooney Camp) was a mining community in the Mogollon Mountains of Grant County. Folklore holds that bandits robbed a stagecoach nearby and cached the take in the hills; it was never recovered. The area is remote Gila National Forest / mining ghost-town country near Alma and the Mogollon historic district.
