Coal Creek — Llano County

Gold Mining Site TX • Llano County County
Description
Coal Creek in the Llano Uplift between the Riley Mountains and Cedar Mountain. Documented among Llano County recreational placer streams where fine gold accumulates in gravel bars after runoff.
Historical Notes
Coal Creek drains Precambrian uplands between the Riley Mountains and Cedar Mountain in northeastern Llano County — the same Oxford quadrangle country associated with Los Almagres mine traditions, Honey Creek headwaters, and Riley Creek placers. Llano Uplift creek gravels throughout this district carry fine placer gold released from quartz veins and granite country rock. Work inside bends, bedrock cracks, and storm-reworked bars when water is low and permission is secured. Nearly all Coal Creek frontage is private ranch property. This entry documents the historical placer locality — not a public access site. Do not trespass.
