Historical Notes
During Grant's 1863 Vicksburg Campaign, Rocky Springs and Claiborne County were stripped bare as 50,000 troops lived off the land. Residents hid valuables when possible. Legends of America notes tales of hidden pirate loot and caches buried by Civil War soldiers along the Natchez Trace. Vicksburg's siege and occupation spawned generations of backyard and bluff treasure stories.
