City of Rocks Treasure Rock Stage Bullion

Lost Treasure ID • Cassia County County
Description
1878 City of Rocks legend of outlaws robbing a Boise-bound military stage near Goose Creek — dragging a bullion-heavy strongbox to Treasure Rock before one bandit died in prison without revealing the burial.
Historical Notes
A posse followed drag marks from Goose Creek into the granite spires of the City of Rocks National Reserve; one outlaw was killed and another captured. The survivor is thought to have cached $90,000–$200,000 in gold at the base of a boulder now called Treasure Rock but died imprisoned without giving coordinates. City of Rocks lore also includes Oakley box-canyon holdup loot and multiple Montana freight robberies hidden among the pinnacles.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
