Description
Church of Christ organized in Burnet in 1856; among the earliest denominations in the Hamilton Valley county seat.
Historical Notes
Burnet was founded as Hamilton in 1852 when Burnet County was established. The Handbook of Texas records a Church of Christ in Burnet by 1856, during the Fort Croghan frontier era. Peter Kerr donated 100 acres for the county seat; churches and schools followed as the Austin and Northwestern Railroad reached town in 1882.
