Chief Joseph Nez Perce Jerkey Stage Plunder Clark Fork — Rosebud County

Lost Treasure MT • Rosebud County County
Description
1877 Clark's Fork legend of Chief Joseph's Nez Perce capturing a springless stage jerkey on the Miles City–Bozeman corridor — passenger goods scattered or cached as the band fled toward Canyon Creek.
Historical Notes
The Fallon County Times stage history records that in 1877, while Chief Joseph's Nez Perces were in the Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone country, a jerkey stagecoach fell into their hands; Joseph rode it in triumph until soldiers pressed the band at Canyon Creek. TreasureNet ties the episode to Peter Netzel's Custer Country research on unrecovered valuables along the Miles City line during the Nez Perce War. Coordinates approximate Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone near Canyon Creek south of Miles City. Remote canyon — legend only.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
