Castle Gap Stage Robbery Loot — Upton County

Lost Treasure TX • Upton County County
Description
Upton County tale of a gold-and-silver stage-robbery cache buried in Castle Gap along the Butterfield Overland Mail route west of Fort Stockton.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Upton County list cites a cache of gold and silver robbery loot buried in Castle Gap. Butterfield stages crossed the gap in the late 1850s; the route remained a choke point for holdups after the Civil War. Patrick Dearen's regional history places Castle Gap at the center of Pecos frontier violence and treasure lore. This entry documents the robbery-loot variant separately from the Maximilian and Catholic Cross traditions. Coordinates mark Castle Gap pass. Private ranch land.
